True Storytelling in Science – Free Webinar

November 30th @ 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET (VIRTUAL)

Science is full of compelling stories. However, we often don’t hear them in the scientific community, despite the fact that they are what engage audiences, compel listeners, and foster creativity among thinkers.  Come learn about storytelling in science—the why and how—in a free 1-hour webinar.

Storytelling for Scientists – 2 hour workshop

December 7 @ 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET

Science is full of compelling stories. However, as researchers, we often omit the more human side of things: how we came to love the questions we study and struggle to find the answers. Stories are what engage, compel, and foster creativity. They can convey the reasoning and the implications behind our studies sometimes better than our abstract explanations– and showing our humanity can free us to innovate, ask big questions, and discuss the ideas that really drive us. In this two hour workshop, Dr. Tamara Spence will give you an overview of the “why” of storytelling in science. You will then be guided through activities to support you in your own story construction and how to infuse it with components of good narrative. By the end of the session you will have a draft of a story that you can continue to hone and use within the scientific community to compel conference audiences or to use to engage the public in their understanding of science. The workshop is virtual via Zoom.
