Khalid Taylor
Story Ambassador 2024
Khalid Taylor is a documentary songwriter and storytelling facilitator. He received a B.A. in Music and Cognition from Oberlin College and is currently a master’s student in the Narrative Medicine program at Columbia University. Khalid’s work centers on the medicine woven into the stories people tend to hold inside— extending an invitation to heal the body, mind, heart, and soul through music, laughter, and introspection. Khalid created his private practice, SOL Songs, to help others transform personal narratives into songs using the collaborative documentary songwriting method, with a sensitivity towards queer and trans people of color. Khalid’s podcast, Songs Through Their Eyes, is an auditory anthology of interviews and song analyses with individuals who have used the “doc song” method to create songs from their lived experiences.
