Clyde Yamamoto
Story Ambassador 2025
Clyde was born and raised in Sacramento and is a “sansei” (3rd generation Japanese American). He grew up playing little league baseball and was a left-handed pitcher for the junior high and high school baseball teams. Also, in high school, he played trumpet and guitar in the marching and jazz bands. Clyde earned a bachelor’s degree in Earth Science from UC Santa Cruz, wrote poetry for a campus newspaper, and joined a student juggling club (he still does this!). Clyde earned a master’s degree in Social Science and then pursued a doctoral degree in Sociology at the University of Chicago (but never finished a dissertation). He worked at Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Denali National Parks and traveled to Europe and Asia. He has enjoyed action sports such as mountaineering, rock and ice climbing, skiing, surfing, running marathons, and martial arts. Clyde pursued a variety of occupations insofar as he approached the job market as an avenue for self-actualization. He was a grassroots community organizer, Capitol Hill Congressional staff person, Fortune 500 business consultant, REI adventure sports guy, ballroom dance choreographer, college teacher, data researcher. He has never had a cup of coffee and dislikes air-conditioning and Sunday brunch.
