SUMMARY:True Storytelling in Science - FREE WEBINAR
DESCRIPTION:FREE WEBINAR \nNovember 30 @ 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET \nScience is full of compelling stories. However\, we often don’t hear them in the scientific community\, despite the fact that they are what engage audiences\, compel listeners\, and foster creativity among thinkers.  Come learn about storytelling in science—the why and how—in a free 1-hour webinar. \nThe webinar will be led by Drs. She is a professor at Sacramento State University and the founder of Capital Storytelling. \nDr. Tamara Spence is a neuroscientist who received her PhD from Wake Forest University where she studied the neural underpinnings of anxiety. She currently works for Brain Vision\, a leading neuroimaging company\, and uses storytelling every chance she gets. \nWant more in-depth training? We are also offering a Storytelling for Scientists Workshop and a Data Storytelling Workshop. SUMMARY:Rewriting My {American} Dream
DESCRIPTION:The {American} Dream has been changed\, evolved\, grown\, and redefined for immigrants and refugees of all origins. Sharing those experiences and deeply listening to others’ stories has been instrumental in building empathy and bringing communities together\, and it can be cathartic and affirming to our journeys. In this 2-day virtual storytelling workshop\, we will come together to explore and reflect on those stories from our lives that surround our identities and lived experiences\, and discover how to shape\, expand\, and structure those stories in a fun\, compassionate\, and safe space.  \nThis 2-part virtual workshop series is open to immigrants and refugees wanting to start or continue their storytelling writing process. No prior experience is necessary.  \nMeghna Bhat\, a Capital Storytelling Ambassador and first-generation immigrant\, will facilitate the workshop on August 23 and 25\, 2022. On Day 1\, you will be led through multiple reflective activities to help you discover your own unique stories and to see meaning in those stories. On Day 2\, you will return to the session to shape and finalize the story you began using tools and strategies for creating meaningful narratives. Participants will be encouraged to share stories in small groups and share in the main session (if they choose). You can choose to come only to Day 1 or you can enroll in both Day 1 and 2 as a package. SUMMARY:My [American] Dream: A storytelling workshop
DESCRIPTION:Graphic by Celeste Espinoza \nHome is where the heart is—but for immigrants\, we may have more than one home\, and more than one memory or definition of “the [American] dream.” The South Asian immigrant community has its share of unique experiences in this journey—ranging from joyful\, memorable\, funny\, uncertain\, and traumatic\, to life-altering. Sharing those experiences about our immigrant dream is not only cathartic\, it helps us find meaning and build connections with others. In this 2 hours virtual workshop\, we will come together to discover and reflect on stories in our lives in a fun\, compassionate\, and safe space. \nMeghna Bhat\, a Capital Storytelling Ambassador\, and a first-generation immigrant will lead participants through individual reflective activities to help them discover their own unique stories and to see meaning in those stories. This story circle has been intentionally created for immigrants\, refugees\, or asylum seekers of South Asian origin from South Asian countries. Participants will be invited to share stories in small groups if they choose. Come connect with others in the community\, learn more about yourself\, find your voice\, and learn more about the power of storytelling. \nJune 22 @ 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET \nCost: $45 \n**We are intentionally creating space for our immigrant community in this workshop.
